Offering the visitor a fascinating combination of
picturesque villages and bustling towns with stunning
Pennine scenery, Barnsley is all wrapped up in an area
rich in industrial heritage.
Barnsley town centre itself enjoys a mix of old and new,
with its famous market (at over 700 years old one of
the oldest in the North), high street stores and nationally
renowned boutiques. Cultural highlights include the
Design Centre and newly refurbished Cooper Gallery,
and an electric night life that once experienced will
never be forgotten.
To the South and West of Barnsley the spectacular
Pennine landscape is dotted with picturesque villages
and a wealth of popular family attractions, including
Elsecar Heritage Centre with its Steam Railway and
exhibitions. As well as many other outstanding
monuments to the area's industrial heritage there are
delightful country parks and 'secret' gardens, an open
farm, wetland centre and much more. |
